Gembira Loka Zoo Gembira Loka Zoo is a tourist spot located on the banks of the Gajah Wong River, Yogyakarta. The zoo is located in the east of Yogyakarta City. Around the zoo, there are lots of large shady trees, adding to the coolness when entering it.  Gembira Loka Zoo was formerly called Kebun Rojo because it was a garden belonging to the Yogyakarta Palace which only contained the palace's animals. This zoo is open to the public and has a complete range of animals from all over Indonesia and abroad. When you enter the zoo, you will be greeted by a family of elephants in their wide open enclosure. In some cages, monkeys and orangutans stare at the visitors as if they are welcome.
