Gembira Loka Zoo

Gembira Loka Zoo is a tourist spot located on the banks of the Gajah Wong River, Yogyakarta. The zoo is located in the east of Yogyakarta City. Around the zoo, there are lots of large shady trees, adding to the coolness when entering it.

 Gembira Loka Zoo was formerly called Kebun Rojo because it was a garden belonging to the Yogyakarta Palace which only contained the palace's animals. This zoo is open to the public and has a complete range of animals from all over Indonesia and abroad.

When you enter the zoo, you will be greeted by a family of elephants in their wide open enclosure. In some cages, monkeys and orangutans stare at the visitors as if they are welcome. Then, next to the elephant cage there is a very large fish aquarium. We can see various kinds of beautiful freshwater fish.

At the back of the zoo there is a penguin enclosure. Penguins are the newest animal in this zoo. There are two penguins in the cage which is foggy. The two penguins looked cute and adorable.

Every visitor will not be bored with the animals and events held by this zoo. Shady trees add to the coolness of the air. Even if you walk in this vast zoo, you won't feel tired because the wind blows, dries your sweat and the animals are cute and have beautiful eyes.
