At school, Habibie, whose hobby was riding horses and reading books, was known for his intelligence. Habibie's father died of a heart attack when he was in elementary school. After that, his mother sold their vehicle and house and then moved to Bandung. As a single parent, Habibie's mother worked hard to support her life and that of her children.
✓Events
In 1954, after Habibie graduated from high school in Bandung, he continued his studies at the Bandung Institute of Technology. He did not finish his studies at ITB because at the same time he received a scholarship from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to study in Germany. He remembered that Bung Karno had said about the importance of aircraft development for Indonesia, and then he decided to take aeronautical engineering with special aircraft construction at Rhein Westfalen Aachen Technische Hochschule (RWTH), a technology institute in Germany.
Habibie tried hard to be successful because he remembered how hard his mother worked for him. In fact, he spends his vacation time at work because he wants to earn money so he can buy books. When the holidays ended, he did nothing but study. In 1960, Habibie graduated with a high score, almost perfect (9.5). With his educational background, he was employed at the railway industry company, named Firma Talbot.
After that, he continued his doctorate at the Technische Hochschule Die Facultaet Fuer Maschinenwesen Aachean. In 1962, he married Hasri Ainun. He is a doctor and after marriage, Ainun followed Habibie to Germany. Habibie and Ainun have two sons. They are Ilham Akbar and Thareq Kemal. At that time, life was getting harder. He had to go to work in the morning because Habibie walked to the office to save more money. He comes home at night and then studies. He completed his doctorate in 1965 with a perfect score.
✓Reorientation
In his life, Habibie has received many achievements and awards from Indonesia and other international institutions. Before he fulfilled a call from President Soeharto and returned to Indonesia, he had worked in the leading aircraft industry, MBB Gmbh, Germany. In Indonesia, Habibie has been Minister of Research and Technology for 20 years and led 10 government companies in strategic industries. He was elected by the community representative assembly as Vice President of Indonesia. When the crisis occurred in 1998 and President Soeharto insisted on stepping down from his post, Habibie was assigned to replace President Soeharto as Indonesia's third President.
